Things to avoid when addressing noise problems

When your ventilation systems become overly noisy, you will want to tackle the issue as soon as possible. Failing to do so can result in big problems for anyone on the site, including physical and psychological damage. What you need to do is choose one of our vent silencer designs. We create these products to dampen the noise from HVAC systems and bring it down to safer levels.

A well-designed HVAC system is one that should not come with unpleasant noise. Typically, problems like whistling and rattling noises aren’t major problems. However, extremely loud air vent sounds will be very disruptive.

The two most common reasons behind loud HVAC sounds are too short of a return air duct and high air velocity. The latter is often the result of a bad design where the ducts are too narrow or not long enough. Both will lead to an efficient transmission of fan noise via the return air duct.

You may have heard about solutions to deal with the noise. However, you should know that there are certain things you can’t do when tackling the issues. Read on to find out what they are.

What can’t I do?

Firstly, you should not try to lower the fan speed via modification. Airflow is vital for HVAC systems to function. When there is not enough, the fan noise may go down, but there can be other problems. Examples include low pressure trip and freezing.

Don’t try covering the vent to minimise noise either. A HVAC set up requires return air for it to function efficiently. When there is not enough airflow, you can experience high fan motor amps and trips later on.

Finally, you cannot remove the filter to lower noise. Filters are necessary to stop dirt from gathering on the cooling coil. This is much harder to clean. When the coil is dirty, there can be low pressure drip and inadequate cooling problems.

Choose a vent silencer

If you want an effective way of dealing with noise, you should use a silencer. At Ventx, we carefully match the silencers we create to the specific application. With our acoustic modelling software, we can inspect your systems and come up with the perfect design. You will be able to carry on without worrying about noise.

So, if you would like to work with us to create a vent silencer, feel free to get in touch. We can provide the greatest results for all kinds of properties, including the noisiest industrial facilities.
