The key points of identifying noise hazards

Industrial silencers are some of the most important tools in use today. They reduce the noise from all sorts of machinery, making workplaces safer and protecting the environment. Ours is an establishment that specialises in designing and supplying them. We have everything from in-line silencer designs to ones for vents. If you’re struggling with noise, we have you covered.

One of the most prevalent problems at work is huge background noise levels. Because of the sensitivity of our hearing, even a minor injury or impairment could have long term effects. No matter the source or severity of the noise, you need to protect the ears of workers.

The first step here is to identify what constitutes a ‘hazard’ in the first place. We want to discuss the key points you must keep in mind whilst pinpointing noise hazards. You’ll therefore be in a better position to examine your property.

Can people hear without shouting?

Firstly, you should check by shouting at a distance of an arm’s length. Worker conversations at an arm’s length are the most straightforward and fastest way to dictate if a certain location poses a noise issue. It’s nearly always an indicator of noise problems when a person must shout to be heard past the sound of machinery.

If people are unable to hear talks at a close distance, they cannot hear calls for help or warning signs in that environment. So, you may need to take steps to reduce the noise level, such as using an in-line silencer or choosing quieter equipment.

Recognise the warning signs

Whilst carrying out a noise survey, look for signs showing that there is a need for Personal Protective Equipment. It’ll be necessary in the presence of recognised noise dangers. You may be able to mark a place as safe, but that doesn’t mean it will always be the case. Noise problems can get worse if you change or move equipment, or even start using it differently.

Check health issues

Another important step is checking for health-related complications at the workplace. Overexposing anyone to noise can cause many substantial health problems. A rise in tension and uneasiness, alongside a decline in focus and coordination are potential side effects of chronic stress. Managers need notifying immediately if anyone experiences these health problems while working in a loud environment. It could be a sign that you need to reduce the sound level.

A crucial health problem to keep an eye out for is a humming or ringing sound in the ears. If anyone working in the property experiences this, it could be a sign of an issue. Make sure you ask everyone to report issues, including a ringing in the ears, the belief they can still hear equipment running, and trouble hearing people.

Do you need equipment like an in-line silencer?

At Ventx, we work hard to ensure each client has the exact silencer they need. This is possible thanks to our acoustic modelling software. With it, we can design the perfect installation for every situation. We also have the engineering expertise to produce equipment, install it, and handle maintenance.

So, if you need an in-line silence or something else, talk to us. We deliver exceptional solutions for a variety of properties, including noisy industrial facilities.
